When it comes to smile design, one of the most important parts of getting the beautiful smile you want is being able to convey your needs, goals, and wants to your dentist.
But sometimes, no matter how often you look at your smile and how long you ponder its appearance, clearly communicating what you’re looking for still seems difficult.
To help ensure you get the best possible outcome from your smile design treatments, we’ve compiled a list of questions for you to consider when looking at your own smile and deciding just what it is you’re hoping for.
Ask yourself these questions and take note of your responses so you can be ready to discuss them with your dentist during your evaluation.
- Are you missing any teeth – not just ones that are visible, but any at all?
- Are any of your teeth crooked?
- Are there gaps or spaces between your teeth?
- What about the color? Are your teeth discolored, or do you wish they were brighter or a different shade of white?
- Are any dental fillings visible, either when you smile or when you laugh or talk?
- Is a lot of gum exposed giving you a “gummy” smile?
- Do your teeth appear crowded or “crammed in”?
- Do your teeth look worn down?
- Are the edges of your teeth even?
- Do your teeth appear in proportion to each other and to the rest of your mouth in general?
- Does your smile appear in proportion with the rest of your face?
Once you have the answers to those questions, think more generally about your smile and its overall appearance:
- Are you self-conscious about the way your smile looks?
- Based on the questions above, what aspects of your smile do you think should be changed to achieve the smile you’re looking for?
- How do you think others perceive your smile? Are you embarrassed by crooked or missing teeth, discolored teeth, or other issues?
- What do you admire in other people’s smiles?
At Levesque Dentistry, we understand that what makes a great-looking smile for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another person.
Each individual has unique issues, concerns, and even perceptions that can influence the end result you’re looking for, and physical characteristics like face and head shape and facial features can also play a role.
